The University of Connecticut - St. Francis Hospital Residency is a university-administered, community-based program, which offers a unique blend of training from academic faculty in a top 100 community hospital. The Department of Family Medicine and our Residency Program were established in 1974. The Residency Program is fully accredited with a three year, alternating resident complement (6-7-6-7) for a total of wither 19 or 20 residents per year. The Family Medicine at Asylum Hill practice center is located directly across the street from Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center on Woodland Street in Hartford. The practice center is also the site for training medical students from the University of Connecticut School of Medicine. The Family Medicine Residency training program emphasizes among others, an innovative use of technology (EMR, handheld computers), Evidenced-based medicine curriculum, strong sports medicine curriculum (including Sports Medicine Fellowship), Integrative Medicine curriculum, longitudinal psychosocial curriculum and a full six months of electives.
